The N.N. Vorozhtsov Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry was established in June 1958 as a part of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Nikolay Nikolayevich Vorozhtsov
(1907 - 1979)
Academician N.N. Vorozhtsov was the founder of the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry and its first director (1958–1975), an outstanding organic chemist, and the founding father of chemistry of polyfluoroaromatic compounds in the USSR. In 1997, the Institute was named to commemorate him.

Vladimir Petrovich Mamaev
(1925 - 1987)
The corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, a famous organic chemist, an expert in chemistry of heterocyclic compounds, V.P. Mamaev was the director of the Institute in 1975–1987.

(1931 - 1997)
Academician V.A. Koptyug was an outstanding scientist, an expert in physical and organic chemistry, chemical informatics, and investigation of the reaction mechanisms of aromatic compounds. V.A. Koptyug headed the Institute in 1987–1997.

Genrikh Aleksandrovich Tolstikov
(1933–2013)
Academician G.A. Tolstikov was an outstanding organic chemist, an expert in the fields of fine and industrial organic synthesis, metal-complex catalysis, chemistry of natural and biologically active compounds, and medicinal chemistry. G.A. Tolstikov was the director of the Institute in 1997–2002.
